While walking back from work this evening I noticed something incredible. As I was coming home I saw little Eritrean children running around playing on the street. It was awesome just seeing little kids running around, I don’t know why but it just put a smile on my face to see it.
Something that did bother me however, was that when I was crossing Harnet Avenue I noticed two American girls walking by with a bag of groceries. What was this?! This was not the Eritrea I knew. Anyway, I suppose its tourism and I suppose also that they were putting valuable USD into our coffers.

Merhawie, you seem to have negative view towards tourists in Eritrea, specially white people in Eritrea. Be happy ‘normal’ people are visiting Eritrea. Instead of lamenting over the changed Eritrea, why don’t you try to understand the impact of the change.

Additionally, I advise you to leave your prejudices behind when you see the unexpected. Not everyone shares them. Keep an open mind and try to seen things from the ‘other perspective’. And as friendly as Asmara is, what holds you back from chatting with what your are labeling ‘tourists’. They have names, they have personalities, and job and family, just as u do.
